ORGANIZATION for 2005 CITY OF HAVERHILL JANUARY FOURTH Meeting of the City Council was held at 7:00 O’clock P.M.

Present - President Michitson, Councillors Ryan, Daly O’Brien, Fossarelli, Hart, DesMarais, Scatamacchia, Hall and Macek

Records of the last meeting were approved

Councillor Scatamacchia was appointed to read the records for the present week.

Councillor Ryan introduced Document 50-D/04 To Wit: ORDERED: THAT THE FOLLOWING HOME RULE PETITION BE ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL AND FORWARDED TO THE GENERAL COURT HOME RULE PETITION AN ACT AUTHORIZING JULIO PEREZ TO TAKE THE CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION FOR THE POSITION OF FIREFIGHTERS IN THE CITY OF HAVERHILL NOTWITHSTANDING THE MAXIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT
Be it enacted, etc. as follows:

Section 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule or regulation to the contrary regulating the maximum age of applicants for appointment as firefighter, Julio Perez of the City of Haverhill shall be eligible for appointment to the position of firefighter in the City if he meets all other requirements, in which case he shall be eligible for certification and appointment to the fire department of the City of Haverhill . To be effective for the April 2004 firefighter examination results. Section 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.

Councillor Macek introduced Document 28-U/04 To Wit: PROCLAMATION WHEREAS: On December 26 th, a tsunami engulfed the seaside communities of twelve Indian Ocean countries, causing one of the worst natural disasters in the history of our earth and throughout the international community as a whole; WHEREAS: Over 125,000 men, women, and children have perished; over 3,000 of these individuals are believed to be Americans, and the losses of lives is expected to grow in the coming days; WHEREAS: International agencies and countries around the globe have joined together to provide relief to these victims; WHREAS: We as citizens of Haverhill are members of a global community that needs our assistance; NOW, THEREFORE, I James J Fiorentini, Mayor of Haverhill, do hereby proclaim the month of January as:

Haverhill’s International Relief Effort Month

In this hour of critical need I encourage the citizens of Haverhill to join in the efforts of providing relief to victims of this tragedy.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Haverhill to be affixed this 31 st day of December in the year of our Lord two thousand and four.
