NOTICE OF MORATORIUM

At the May 20, 2008 City of Haverhill Board of Health meeting the Board voted unanimously to issue a MORATORIUM on the installation of outdoor wood burning boilers and furnaces. Said moratorium has the force of a regulation and was adopted under the authority of MGL Chapter 111 Section 31.

In doing so the Board is concerned that the smoke generated by wood burning furnaces potentially creates a public health nuisance worthy of regulation due to the particulate matter created by the boilers and furnaces, unpleasant odors, and the general pollution associated with burning. Said Moratorium shall remain in effect until such time as the Board rescinds that decision or the State enacts a specific regulation.
