Health Services
Nurse:
The COA has a full-time registered nurse & part-time parasocial worker
on staff with prevention, monitoring and education their main focus.
Many health-related services are available to elders free of charge, or
for a minimal fee (donations are always accepted & appreciated).
Regular walk-in blood pressure clinics are held at the
Center every Tuesday. Screening for diabetes, anemia, hearing, vision
and colon-rectal problems are periodically available. Additional health
services which are available include:
- Fall flu immunization,
- pneumonia and tetanus vaccines,
- Vitamin B-12 injections (at the request of a client's
physician),
- cholesterol screening,
- health, nutrition, and prescription
drug counseling; and
- health education programs, workshops, and promotions.
The COA's nurse is also available to make home visits
to physically impaired individuals for various health concerns. The COA
works closely with area case managers, local VNA's and home health agencies,
and other City Departments to ensure the safety of our senior residents.

Hearing Screenings:
Free, 1st Thursday of every month and 3rd Thursday of every other month at 10:00 am.

Health Appliance Loaner Program:
Numerous donated health appliances are available on a free-loan basis.

Family Counselor:
A licensed clinical Social Worker is available to discuss personal
problems in confidence, and when necessary, can help a person find the
right counseling agency if additional services are needed.

Massage Therapy:
First Tuesday of each month. Reduced fee of $5 per 10 to 15-minute
chair massage. Contact MaryJane at the center for an appointment.

Support Groups:
- Diabetic Support Group:
The Diabetic Support Group meets at the Center on every third Thursday
of the month.
- Latino Social Group:
Meets Tuesday mornings at 9:30 at the Center. This program has been
made possible by funding from the Older Americans Act as granted by
Elder Services. Educational and recessional activities are planned
by Minority Outreach Coordinator. Plans are developed to participate
in, or go to, activities that hold the interest of club members.
- Social Club:
Meets second Tuesday of each month at 1:30 in Room 32 at the Center.
The group shares information about local social and entertainment activities.
Plans are developed to participate in, or go to, activities that hold
the interest of club members.
- Vision Support and Recreation Group:
Meets second Monday of month with Dorothy Seafurt from 10:00-2:00 at
the Center. Funded by VISION Foundation, group discusses ways to deal
with limited or no vision, participates in Center activities, and participates
in or goes to activities that hold the interest of club members.
- Weight loss Support Group:
Wednesdays, 10 a.m., Room 32.
