Summer Day Program:
This popular summer program has provided daylong care for over 20 years to the children of the Haverhill area. Open to school-aged children, and runs in two-week sessions Many activities such as swimming, fishing sports, arts & crafts, and field trips are introduced during this all-day program this well supervised activity staffed by teachers, with college and high school students in assistance . Three two-week sessions are available. Drop of your child as early as 7:30 am and pick up at 4:30 ( See Attached Schedule) lunch is also included in price of the camp

BOATING PROGRAM
Haverhill Recreation’s Boating-Day Program is back!
This exciting program offers hands-on instruction for sailing, rowing and canoeing, as well as safety on and in the water. Participants will also enjoy fishing and swimming throughout each 2-week session. At the conclusion of each session, family and friends are invited to watch participant’s new skills play out in team competitions. The program is directed by certified Boating Instructor Jack Ulrich, (who also teaches at Whittier Regional Technical High School ). The program is offered to participants who are entering the 5 th grade - and up through High School.

DATES: Session 1: June 27- July 8 th ( No Program July 4th)
  Session 2: July 11- July 22
  Session 3: July 25- Aug 5
TIME: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Location: Lake Saltonstall (Plug Pond)
Fee: $200.00 per 2-week session

HELPFUL TIPS:

Because this is primarily an outdoor program, we suggest that participants bring plenty of water/drinks and apply sun lotion when necessary. A school lunch will be offered each day at no extra cost, however, a home lunch may be brought as well as additional snacks.

GIRL’S BASKETBALL CLINIC
Instructor Kevin Woelfel offers a developmental program for girl’s entering 5 th grade through High School to help improve basketball skills. Only one session is offered.

GOLF CLINIC
Golf lessons provided by and held at Garrison Golf Course, hosted by Ted and Mary Murphy. Three summer sessions are available to youth ages 9 - 14 years old. Max. 30 per session.

JOHN J. LYNCH TENNIS TOURNAMENT
This annual event has been held for over 75 years to determine the City Champion in men’s and women’s singles, as well as men’s, women’s and mixed doubles. The tournament is dedicated to a mentor well-known in the City of Haverhill , John J. Lynch. All players are invited to participate in one of the oldest tennis tournaments in the state. The tournament director is Peter Lynch.

FENCING

Under the direction of  2 time Olympian Molly Sullivan-Sliney this popular  8 week program is designed for kids and adults to learn the basics of this fast growing sport.  Classes meet on Thursdays beginning Sept 29th and ending Nov 17, a winter session is planned beginning Dec.1 . Beginner class will meet from 3:30pm to 4:30 pm with intermediate classes meeting from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm Cost is $85 , All equipment is provided.

Instructional Baseball

A program, which stresses the basics of the sport, while teaching the participants about sportsmanship and having fun, without focusing on competitiveness. Boys and girls between the ages of 5-8 take part in this family-oriented program, which runs on Saturday mornings during May and June.

Haverhill Jr. Football   

Under the Direction of Kevin Woodman (over 30 years coaching experience) this league is designed to teach The fundamentals of tackle football using an in- town competitive league format. Players are placed on a team on a team according to the  school they attend, if a player  attends a private school they will be placed on a team with-in the school district they reside. Players are place in divisions according to grades 5th&6th "B" division with 7th& 8th "A" division. Cost is $ 90

IMPORTANT DATES equipment issue and weigh-ins will be conducted at Haverhill Citizen’s Center on the following dates: No Walk in registrations on these dates.

  • August 5 th 3:30 pm - 5:30pm
  • August 8 th 4:00 pm - 6:00pm
  • August 11 th 4:00 pm - 6:00pm
  • August 17 th 4:00 pm - 6:00pm
  • August 18 th 400 pm - 6:00pm

*** Players must be registered before receiving a helmet and shoulder pads. Parents and players are responsible for providing their own football pants, hip pads, thigh pads, kneepads and foot wear.

*** Parents need to notify the Recreation Department and their child’s coach of any pre-existing medical condition.( Please indicate allergies, medications, or medical condition in the you may do so in the additional comment section while registering on line

PRACTICE SESSIONS : ( Preseason)

1- ½ hour sessions begin: August 23, 24, 25 th

** Coaches will require players to have the following equipment for these sessions:

FOOTBALL HELMET, WATER BOTTLE, MOUTH PIECE, SHORTS, T-SHIRT, SNEAKERS OR MOLDED CLEATS, WATER BOTTLES

Practices continue August 29 th through September 1 st. Coaches will require players to be outfitted in full gear.

Two-hour practice sessions will be conducted for A division (7 th & 8 th grades), and 1-½ hour practices will be conducted for B division (5 th & 6 th grades).

LABOR DAY WEEKEND : No practice sessions will be conducted 9/2 – 9/5/05

Plug Pond Swimming:
Many people seek relief from those hot summer days at this scenic beach area that is open during the summer months. The site is staffed with lifeguards, has bathroom facilities, and is the home of various programs such as Haverhill Community Boating and the Learn-to-Fish program. Parking Fee $2.00

Veteran's Memorial Skating Rink:
Managed by the City of Haverhill, the rink provides area residents with varied skating programs, including public skating, youth and adult hockey leagues, the Haverhill Figure Skating club and high school hockey. For more information contact the rink at 978-373-9843.

Gayle Bridgefords \ Pentucket Arts Center : Young Peoples Theater Work Shop
Children's Theater:  Children will rehearse and perform in a production that incorporates music, singing, and dance.  This is an ensemble production where everyone has an important role.  The class will help develop the story and create the play.  Both theater classes will rehearse separately but will be combined in one show.

Children's Theater ages 6-8 will meet 9-10:30
Children's Theater ages 9-12 will meet 10:30-12:30
