Meeting of the License Commission was held at 7:00 PM In Room 202, City Council Chambers, City Hall.

Present:

  • Chairman Edwards
  • Commissioner Sullivan
  • Commissioner Hanson

On the motion of Commissioner Sullivan and seconded by Commissioner Hanson the minutes for the October meeting were accepted and they were unanimously approved.

Application was received for approval of a One Day Wines and Malt License from Haverhill Boxing Club, Inc. located at 14 Stevens Street. The event will take place on November 29, 2007 from 6:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Samuel J. Amari, Applicant. Mr. Amari appeared in favor and no one appeared in opposition. On the motion of Commissioner Hanson and seconded by Commissioner Sullivan, the application was unanimously approved.
APPROVED

Application was received for pre approval of a Common Victuallers License from Target Store #T-2325 located at 35 Computer Drive. Target Corporation, applicant. Mr. Pitcher appeared in favor and no one appeared in opposition. On the motion of Commissioner Hanson and seconded by Commissioner Sullivan the application was unanimously approved.
APPROVED

Application was received for pre approval of a Common Victuallers License from Wicked Big Café located at 19 Essex Street. Dawn Balsamo, applicant. Mrs. Balsamo appeared in favor and no one appeared in opposition. On the motion of Commissioner Sullivan and seconded by Commissioner Hanson the application was unanimously approved.
APPROVED

Application was received for pre approval of a Common Victuallers License from Mikkies Variety located at 25A Washington Square. Michelle Fitch, applicant. Mrs. Fitch appeared in favor and no one appeared in opposition. On the motion of Commissioner Sullivan and seconded by Commissioner Hanson the application was unanimously approved.
APPROVED

Application was received for a Change of Manager from Big League Entertainment d/b/a Chunky’s Cinema Pub located at 371 Lowell Avenue. Michael Manetta to David Cloutier. Mr. Cloutier appeared in favor and no one appeared in opposition. On the motion of Commissioner Hanson and seconded by Commissioner Sullivan the application was unanimously approved.
APPROVED

Show Cause Hearing for Saba Food Mart for selling alcoholic beverages to a person under 21 years of age on October 25, 2007. Sgt. Dana Burrill of the Haverhill Police Department appeared in front of the Commission to offer testimony of the events that took place on that date. He and Chairman Edwards checked most of the package stores in the area to support Mothers Against Drunk Driving. When they went to Saba Food Mart Commissioner Edwards observed the clerk selling alcoholic beverages to a minor that was working with him and Sgt. Burrill. Mr. Joseph Hughes General Manager of the store appeared on behalf of the establishment. He took full responsibility of the error, and said he would be more cautious in the future. On the motion on Commissioner Sullivan and seconded by Commissioner Hanson the license was suspended for a period of two days November 26 and November 27, 2007.
LICENSE SUSPENDED FOR TWO DAYS

Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM. The next meeting will be held on Monday December 3, 2007.
