Meeting of the Haverhill License Commission was held in Room 202, Council Chambers, City Hall

Application was received for pre approval of a Common Victuallers License from Burke’s Blast from the Past Diner located at 558 River Street. Sohan Saini, applicant. Mr Saini appeared in favor, and no one appeared in opposition. On the motion of Commissioner Sewell, seconded by Commissioner Sullivan, the application was unanimously approved.
APPROVED

Application was received for pre approval of a Class II Car dealer’s license from Ideal Cars located at 117 Winter Street. Devon Manis, applicant. Ms Manis appeared in favor and no one appeared in opposition. On the motion of Commissioner Sullivan, seconded by Commissioner Sewell, the application was unanimously approved, pending City Council approval.

Application was received for approval of Pledge of License from Zefta & Taleb Inc. d/b/a Maria’s Family Restaurant located at 8-10 Locust Street. Kamal Zefta, applicant.
NO ACTION TAKEN

Application was received for approval of an Alter of Premises from Haverhill Country Club, Inc. d/b/a Haverhill Country Club located at 58 Brickett Lane. Shae Baddour, applicant. Atty Migliori appeared in favor and no one appeared in opposition. On the motion of Commissioner Sewell, seconded by Commissioner Sullivan, the application was unanimously approved.
APPROVED

Application was received  for approval of an Alter of Premises from North Shore Holdings LLC d/b/a Renaissance Golf Club, located 377 Kenoza Street. Michael Robichaud, applicant. Atty Migliori appeared in favor and several neighbors spoke regarding the conditions of storm water overflows in the neighborhood.The license commission determined that the issue being raised was not relevant to the  request. On the motion of Commissioner Sullivan, seconded by Commissioner Sewell, the application was unanimously approved.

Application was received for approval of a transfer of an All Alcohol Package Store License from Paradise Wine & Spirits Corp., d/b/a Hennessey Liquors located at 239 Lincoln Ave. Philip Hennessey to Timmy Troung. Attorney Goldberg, representing Mr Truong, appeared in favor and no one appeared in opposition. On the motion of Commissioner Sewell, seconded by Commissioner Sullivan, the application was unanimously approved.

Show Cause Hearing: Saba food Mart for selling alcoholic beverages to a person under the age of 21 years of age on March 14, 2009. General Manager Joseph Hughes and Marion Davis, Manager, represented Saba Food Mart. Mr. Hughes and Ms. Davis did not refute the charges. They informed the commission that the employee in question has been fired and another employee who was suspected to have been willing to sell to minors has also been fired. The commission felt that Saba was taking appropriate steps to curbing underage serving, and recommended a one day suspension. On the motion of Commissioner Sullivan, seconded by Commissioner Sewell, the suspension was unanimously approved.

Show Cause Hearing: Essex Street Grille for serving after hours on March 15, 2009. On the motion of Commissioner Sullivan, seconded by Commissioner Sewell, hearing was postponed to May 7 2009.
NO ACTION TAKEN
