ARTICLE V
Restrictions on Certain Types of Dogs

§ 137-21 American Staffordshire terriers; American pit bull terriers, bull terriers.
- No owner, keeper of other person having the care, possession or custody of any American Staffordshire terrier, also known as “American pit bull terrier, “ also knows as “bull terrier, “ dog shall permit or allow such dog to be off such person’s own premises unless such dog is securely muzzled and leashed.
- The term “muzzled” herein means wearing a device constructed of strong, soft material or a metal muzzle such as that used commercially with greyhound dogs. Such muzzle device must be made in a manner which will not cause injury to the dog or interfere with its vision or respiration but must prevent the dog from biting any person or animal.
- While on the premises of any such owner, keeper or other person, any such dog shall be kept in a penned in area set back a minimum of twenty (20) feet from the front boundary line of such person’s property.
- Whoever violates any provision of this Article V shall be subject to a fine of one hundred dollars ($100.) for the first offense and a fine of not less than one hundred dollars ($100.) nor more than three hundred dollars ($300.) for each subsequent offense.
