1. Can H.A.P.D. Officers arrest people?

Yes, Auxiliary Officers are sworn law enforcement officers with the powers of arrest.

2. Do H.A.P.D. Officers carry guns?

Yes, H.A.P.D. Officers carry their personally owned 9mm handguns once they have completed a four month probation period, successfully graduated from the Mass. Criminal Justice Training Academy and have qualfied with the Department firearms instructor.

3. What do Auxiliary Officers do?

H.A.P.D. Officers patrol Haverhill streets along side the Haverhill Police Department Officers. Providing support and assistance as required.

Aux. Officers also handle Lock Outs, work traffic details, assist motor vehicle accidents, patrol all city property and buildings. Such as schools, parks, cemeteries.

H.A.P.D. provide manpower for walk-a-thons, road races, parades, and other public events.

4. Are H.A.P.D. Officers EMT's?

Not all Auxiliary Officers are EMT's. All Members of the force are certified First Responders with C.P.R.

5. Do Auxiliary Officers get paid?

No, Auxiliary Officers volunteer there personal time and receive no financial compensation.

6. Are H.A.P.D Patches available?

No, Unfortunately patch requests cannot be fullfilled due to budget constraints and the fact that we are a volunteer department operating on donations and grants.
